Brighton Pavilion Gardens

On the recent LomoTrip to Brighton, I was simply blown away by the beauty not just of the the Royal Pavilion building, but also of the garden/park surrounding it.

The Pavilion building seems to be set virtually right in the centre of Brighton, yet when close to it and photographing it and hanging out in the beautiful gardens that surround it, you couldn’t feel further from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets.

I understand that the gorgeous building used to be a Royal residence with building of it beginning as early as 1787. You can read more about it here – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Pavilion. It looks to have been influenced by buildings in India such as the beautiful Taj Mahal and I was very surprised to come across such a building in a UK seaside town. It is incredibly photogenic.

The lovely green area surrounding the building is equally as lovely. I believe this is called Victoria Gardens but seems to be referred to as the Pavilion Gardens. Not only it is gorgeous greenery with trees, ponds, and cute little fences lining the pathways, but there are also huge areas of wide open space for sitting, having a picnic etc. As it was a hot day when we visited, there was a lot going on in the area and loads to see and do. We ended up having a tug of war (which we won twice!) and there were other games such as bowling. There were also musicians and food stalls aplenty.

I highly recommend this park if you want to really feel like you have escaped from the city, without having to step too far outside of a city at all really! You can find it just off Pavilion Parade in BN1.
