Grimaldi's // Pizza in Brooklyn

2011-07-16

As a native New Yorker, I consider it a birthright to be opinionated about local pizza.

After having done the appropriate research (25 years of NY pizza eating), I feel I can say with certainty that some of the very best pies come from Grimaldi’s in Brooklyn.

Their brick oven pies (no slices!) are world famous, so the lines can be incredibly daunting, sometimes stretching nearly to the East River (not an exaggeration!). If possible, I would highly suggest avoiding the line entirely (without revealing my secrets, let’s just say it helps to have Grimaldi’s on speed dial).

The walls are covered with photos of celebrities and politicians – Michelle Obama even popped in for a slice on my last visit. Though they have other locations, none of them gives off the same feeling of authenticity than the original location in Brooklyn has (that their spot is literally under the Brooklyn Bridge doesn’t hurt, either).

Definitely a must for any pizza lover!

How (Not) to Make It in New York

Everything I had fit into eight boxes and two suitcases. That’s all I had collected in my 22 years on earth, eight boxes and two suitcases. My friends and I moved to Brooklyn in the dead of winter, just after a huge snowstorm. I came from California and had no real experience living in snow. All of it was magical to me.
