A Vintage Stock Certificate’s Worth

It is a fairly common scenario for, say, an old lady to come across stock certificates from who knows when while clearing out the attic. She wonders how much they are worth today, if at all.

American financial news and services website, The Street, argues that determining the value of a long forgotten stock certificate is beyond math. But that it could still be done. By reviewing recent stock performance as well as culling information from companies that have been altered through merger or other, they came up with a top 10 list of old stock certificates that are worth a fortune, even today.

Another way to attribute value to this type of legal document is perhaps more relevant to us – by treating them as collectibles along the lines of numismatics. There are a few entities that buy and sell original stock and bond certificates, just like how we sometimes buy and sell rare cameras.

If you have stories about rare analogue camera finds, please tell us about it. The topic is, in fact, a requested post this month!
