Cup and Saucer Luncheonette

The Cup & Saucer is one of New York’s last remaining classic luncheonettes.

Besides the PERFECT old-school diner name (and equally amazing signage), Cup & Saucer is the epitome of a greasy spoon. They serve large portions of no-frills food and cheaply. The breakfast specials (from 6am until 11am) are the best deals. For $4 you get a cup of coffee, toast, juice, eggs, and hash browns.

Cup & Saucer is right off the Manhattan Bridge on the border of the Lower East Side and Chinatown. There are no tables, just counters, so the service is always quick. I always favor the counters facing the windows so I can people watch as I dig in to my delicious, cheap food.

Though I can’t seem to figure out how long it’s actually been around, the exterior and interior seemed not to have changed for several decades. If it weren’t for the clientele (in the last few years I’ve started noticing a much more hipster-ish crowd, probably overflow from the neighboring Lower East Side), this place would seem lost in time.

It’s a small space, so it can get a little crowded on the weekends, but the crowd thins out during the week. After the morning rush on weekdays, you’ll most likely only be sharing the diner with 1 or 2 other stragglers.

A perfectly (cheap!) and analogue diner!
