Bodrum and Göltürkbükü 2011

Reportage in Bodrum Bay and around. Famous spot, town of Göltürkbükü mentioned and photographed with infrared Rollei 400 ISO. Also pictures of Ambrosia Beach in Bitez and around Bodrum with Holga Wide Pinhole black and white.

Here you have it, a trip to Bodrum Peninsula. I arrived at Milas Airport via a reasonably-priced ticket. Things went around really fast for it was no more than 2 weeks but enough to check things out like a tourist; no judgment, but really seeing what Bodrum is all about. Things could not have been perfect: nice location, nice weather, and then the photos. Trying Rollei Infrared for the first time with the Lubitel B, and then also for the first time for a wider reportage Ilford’s black and white with the wide pinhole Holga.

Things couldn’t have also turned out better for I did the boat trip like most tourists do for that is what the locals push you into. Bodrum is a bay with many different bays with typical Turkish towns on each Limani (Harbor) I also got the very cool chance to kick it at the new Kuum Hotel in the town of Göltürkbükü, which is nearby. That is the bay where the rich and famous hang out. The hotel features modern architecture that stands out in the surroundings.

Despite this, Göltürkbükü is big enough to have quite a few hang out places: beach with shops, hotels and restaurants. There are also places to party all night long like hotel clubs, and B&B parties. The only thing to regret is the night shots that didn’t come out from the pool at the Kempinski in Barbaros bay. This is an AMAZING location. Also near Bodrum. There is even a dolmus that takes you there, but I do not think it climbs all the way up the mountain to the hotel, which of course has the best view. Very nice pictures from Ambrosia Beach – a spot very popular with the British tourists.

So what are my personal favorites? Well, I think that the infrareds from Göltürkbükü and around Bitez and Bodrum. Then, you’ve got the black-and-white picture of me pointing at the ubiquitous and omnipresent political propaganda of the Turkish prime minister. Oh well, another reason to go back, but this time with more rolls because you are definitely not finding any anywhere near Bodrum. I had to get mine shipped from Istanbul but the hotel staff were kind enough to order them for me. The infrared I had already bought in Prague. Can’t wait to go back but next time around, with color films.
