The most numerous, ingeniously simple, cheap and very popular, this Soviet camera for many was “the road to photograph.”
Smena-8M Soviet union LOMO camera made it to the Guinness Book of Records as the most popular camera in the world. The new hull form and the new design makes the camera very attractive. Smena 8M — a truly “popular” camera. Because of its incredibly low price and ease of use, it found its way into every Soviet family. Probably not much mistaken if I say that the pictures taken by “Smena” is in almost every family archives.
The camera has a very good and sharp lens T-43 F = 40, D = 4. This camera forgives inaccurate focusing as it just needs to be set based on the distance scale. At medium apertures (around 8), it creates a picture of very good quality. Simple leaf shutter is synchronized with the flash at any shutter speed, and indeed, the shutter speed range is pretty good 1/15s – 1 / 250 and “B”. But the main thing — it’s extremely easy to learn. A 15-minute “acquaintance” with the camera is enough for anyone who holds the camera for the first time in his life. He could start shooting and taking pictures of very good quality right away.
Next to the meter at the distance scale are some symbols. The value of the required aperture is combined with the installation of the film sensitivity, and shutter speed can be seen as the numeric values, and the weather symbols are on the lens barrel.
Everything is very simple. Many times I did not take pictures with the Smena 8M, but still love this camera, for the ease of use, and the opportunity to make doubles and flash photography.
