Round Two: LomoPaparazzi Hits NXNE with Melina Mehr

NXNE, now in its 17th year, NXNE has become the Canadian festival destination for new and emerging talent. This year Lomography Canada sent Melina Mehr armed with a LomoPhotopass and a Lomo LC-Wide in hand to access and shoot everything in her path. Check out part two of her story!

North by Northeast Music Festival and Conference (NXNE) hit full gear on Saturday. The Live in Bellwoods session had a much higher body count than its precedent days. After Sweet Thing played their set, I couldn’t help but overhear everyone around me chattering about how full of energy their performance was – and that didn’t die down with the continuation of Allie Hughes, Forest City Lovers, and Harlan Pepper jamming through the afternoon. A lot of folks stuck behind after the show to just hang out in the park, and many many familiar faces were seen and greeted!

The Horseshoe Tavern was backed up during the night, and I slithered my way to the front to snap some photos of a bopping Hooded Fang knockin’ out the crowd with their sing-a-long melodies. Dinosaur Bones conquered the stage and all eyes couldn’t help but stay fixated on the boys owning up and beyond to their album sounds. North and East from the Horseshoe, Heartbeat Hotel gave all at Rancho Relaxo, especially as lead singer, Chris, remained in his boxer shorts until the very end of the set. A real charmer indeed!

On Sunday, the bittersweet final day of NXNE 2011, I noticed a lot of people wandering sidewalks trying to discover the city during the bright hours before hitting up more last minute shows for the night. Wild Nothing at The Garrison brought in a dedicated crowd as everybody savored their final midnight dance jams. An encore ensued (of course) and when the show was over, everybody spilled into the streets, shaken with remarkable times at North by Northeast Music Festival and Conference (NXNE), and awaiting something just as exceptional for next year.
