On May 21, 1980, the second installment of the Star Wars epic space opera premiered and once again wowed moviegoers with its cutting-edge special effects and riveting storyline. However, filming for The Empire Strikes Back also had an epic story of its own, as the production team encountered one obstacle after another before the movie made it to the cinemas.
This is just one story told by author and editor J.W. Rinzler in his recent book on the Star Wars movies, released on October 2010—just in time for the iconic film’s 30th anniversary. Entitled The Making of The Empire Strikes Back, the book is not only a treasure trove of stories, information, and controversies, but also illustrations, drafts, and rare and delicious behind-the-scenes photos. Definitely should be on every Star Wars fan’s wishlist (and bookshelf, eventually)!
