Sant Sadurni d’Anoia is a small village of around 8000 people located near Barcelona. It is at the heart of the Alt Penedès Wine Region.
Though it is small, Sant Sadurni d’Anoia has plenty to show if you are interested in Wine and Sparkling Spanish Wine (Cava)!
Just a 50-minute train ride from the centre of Barcelona it is easily accessible if you wish to visit for the day.
Home to almost 80 different wine and cava producers, including Friexenet who produces 150 million bottles annually and Gramona, which is internationally known for its quality, there are countless places to visit!
If you wish to visit, the locals will appreciate it immensely if you make an effort to learn a few words of the local dialect, Catalan. A simple “Bon dia” (Good day) when you walk in will automatically impress them!
Walking or cycling is the easiest way to get from one end of town to another, and if you wish to visit the Bodegas (wineries) they are all very effectively signposted.
Even if you don’t want to visit the bodegas you can simply come here for a bit of peace and quiet from the hustle and bustle of Barcelona. Walking down the street, you can see some of the beautiful simple Spanish architecture, and then go into one of the many bars or restaurants and enjoy a glass of Cava or if you prefer, a glass of Estralla Damm!
The vibes that this town gives off is a sterotypical, small Spanish village, but if you look further, dig deeper (down into the cava cellars!), you will find much to see, eat, and drink!
