I have come back after a week of my TEN AND ONE Artistic Residency at Lomography HQ in Vienna with my head full of ideas and projects that I would like to start and try out. By the end of the week I have a book (almost) full of tips, anecdotes and pure Lomographic love.
The TEN AND ONE Residency Week has been very intense and full of activities. From 11 to 18 November, we did LomoWalks around Vienna, guided visits to museums and magazine editorial office, a workshop, a trip to Bratislava, worked on our LomoWall and of course LomoLunch and LomoDinner. We had the opportunity to attend a Cyanotype Workshop at Lomography Head Quarter held by Michael Wuermer, a young and nice photographer and printer.
We are very pleased to have Dimitri Beck as a jury of our TEN AND ONE AWARDS. Dimitri Beck is the director of photography for Polka. We asked him questions about his work, photography and some defining moments. "Photography is of public utility" he says !
Aurélien Valette has been at the head of communication and events production for the French photography festival Les Rencontres d'Arles for 12 years now. He honored us by accepting to be one of the judges of our TEN AND ONE AWARDS. Today, he tells us about what he likes about photography and tells us a bit more about what inspires him.
Colors mean differently for all walks of life. For this week we have coquelicot, a bright red named from the wild corn poppy. Lomography tries to understand the meaning of each complex color found in the gradient and what it means for most of us photographers.
Gabriel H. Sanchez is photo essay editor at BuzzFeed News and part of our TEN AND ONE AWARD judges. His poetic way of talking about photography in this interview not only proves his passion for the medium but most likely makes you want to grab your camera right away and snap your submissions.
Most artists prefer to show than tell, especially with their feelings. If you're among the subtle souls, you might want to try the Lomography Redscale XR 50-200, a 35mm art film for you your creative expression.
I was fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the winners in the Monochrome category of the first ever Lomography TEN AND ONE photography competition. After a Residency Week in Vienna I came to the following conclusions about the essence of photography.
March is Women's History Month and we want to take a closer look at the wonderful women behind cameras. Lauren Lepore loves capturing true NYC moments to last in her photos beyond the existence of people and places. We talked to her about her thoughts on "controversial" work and the depiction of women in photography.
Khalifa Al Obaidly is passionate about photography and started taking pictures already as a child, when his father gave him his first camera. He now works for Qatar Museums as Director of Artist in resident programs and is one of our newest additions to the judging panel for the TEN AND ONE AWARDS 2017. Get to know him through this short interview!
