The International Film Festival is for us the best opportunity to tell you about this famous place all the world has its eyes on during two weeks : the Palais des Congrès et des Festivals of Cannes.

Known in the entire world for welcoming all the stars (yes, all of them, no exception) of the movie industry on its red carpet and on its stair steps for more than 50 years, the Palais’ history is closely related to the history of the Film Festival itself.

The first edition of the Film Festival was held in 1946 in the old casino of the city of Cannes. On the same year, the city council decides to have a building on the Croisette boulevard dedicated to this worldwide event. The “Palais des Festivals” – also known as Palais Croisette – was born in 1949 for the 4th edition of the Film Festival. Today, this Palais has been replaced by a hotel.

Sight from the Croisette boulevard

In 1979, the city council decides to have a new Palais on the Croisette boulevard, but closer from the old docks of the city, where the old Casino used to be. Inaugurated in 1982, this building is 35,000 square meter large and holds no less than 18 screening rooms, which can also be used for concerts.

From the Palais to the beach, there’s only one road to cross…

Today – and two weeks every year, in may – this is definitely THE place to be, the place where all the world looks at…

And just in case you were wondering how it felt to be standing on the most famous red carpet in the world on the D day…
