Building a wide-angle party LCA with RingFlash and neck-cord

The only thing missing from the LC-A+, is the WOW-COOL-factor that make people want to jump in front of it. Pretty pics, but it doesn’t look fun. With this tipster, it does :-) And you can wear it around your neck!

At a danceparty your camera has to be appealing. It should have the WOW COOL factor that makes people jump in front of it :-). And you don’t want it to be a burden in your pocket… also a man-purse to put it in…is out of the question!

The ring-flash puts the WOW factor into the LC-A+, instant! But I also want the Wide-Angle lens on it. There is no brace supplied by Lomo that makes this possible, so i picked up the old hobby-kit and started building it myself. The analog way, with cardboard and duck-tape.

Oke here’s what you need to get going:
- LC-A+
- LC-A+ Wide-Angle lens
- Lomography Ringflash
- HOLGA-bracket that came with RingFlash
- Neck-cord from any old camera (i used Olympus from my mom)
- Cardboard
- Sissors
- Duck-tape
- A couple of rubber-bands

Step 1: The Basics

Oke, so you just slide the Wide-Angle lens on the LC-A+ the normal way. And put in the HOLGA-bracket in the RingFlash. As you notice, there is a lot of room at the bottom of the camera and little room around the Wide-Angle lens.

Step 2: Making it fit

The only place you have to make it fit, is at the bottom. Take some cardboard and cut it the same size as the RingFlash bottom is. Duck-tape each piece of cardboard individually. I used two pieces of cardboard and it fitted perfect! Pay attention not to tape over the CONNECTOR-HOLE for the flash!!!

Step 3: Attaching a neck-cord

Yes, i DO want to look like a tourist :-) So i want my camera dangling around my neck all night! Be careful and make the neck-cord really really secure! Take as much duck-tape as you need! The more Duck, the better!

Step 4: Securing the camera to the OVERSIZED bracket

Let’s not forget, all these components weren’t made for each other… So this step uses rubber-bands to secure the LC-A+ with Wide-Angle lens in the HOLGA-bracket.

- Make sure the LC-A+ lens is set open!
- The distance is already set! (in my OWAP-pics i used 0,7m all night)
- The ISO value is already set! (i used CL100 film with the light-meter also set to 100)
- Attach the rubber-bands in a way, that you can re-do them after some beers…. You will have to change the film during the party…. Find a quiet place to change!

Step 5: Have fun!!!

You are soooooo ready to have a great night!! Just to be sure also attach the lens-cap and use it! Bring a dry cloth in your pocket, because the lens-cap gets the lens dirty. The cap is made of rubber which stains the lens….

Step 6: Enjoy your party-pics
