Or how to convince a little fungus to stay to live in your film

Recently, I used a roll that was forgotten. I had moved and had all the rolls in a box, that when my mother felt overwhelmed with all the belongings, decided the box was going to the terrace. I, innocent, thought the box would be covered somewhere, but no: spent more than three months in the chilly weather (it was winter) until one day I finally remembered to ask my mother where the rolls were and went back again to get them.

One of them was expired, so I decided it would be the first to be used. I exposed the roll as usual, but what was my surprise when I developed it … There were some little “flowers” in my film! I thought I’d missed a double exposure that I did and I did not remember … Until I saw the whole roll was covered by these small seedlings, even on the part of the unexposed film (as you will see below).

A fungus! That probably was cold and used to hide in my roll … Do not blame him. In fact, I think I’ll get to cool my rolls more often, so in addition to magnificent double exposures, I’ll sponsor a homeless little fungus :)

Now you know, if you want to create an ecosystem in your films the steps are really simple:

1 – Buy rolls
2 – Take them out to cool, the colder and more humid (especially the latter) the better!
3 – Leave the rolls there, the longer the better :)

Good luck with your sponsorships!

Cool effect and nice tipster. But be careful not to touch the fungus or breathe in any spores that the fungus may release! It will make you sick.
