I was always annoyed that It took me so long to find the right flash filter while in low light. So I had an idea! The result is this little card that allowed me to quickly select a filter. It also fits in any pocket, since it is only the size of a postcard.
With a little skill you could easily craft your own. :)
So you want a flash filter card? Then we will see but first you will need all of this. ;)
- 3 cards (choose thicker paper, postcard)
- 2 round-head brass paper fasteners
- and a pencil, a cutter, a ruler, glue and a hole punch
Everything gathered? Then you can start now!
Step 1: First off, you take a postcard and draw a line 1.5cm across the top. Then scratch a seam through the line using your cutter. Set this cover card aside for now.
Step 2: Now the second card’s turn. Here, mark yourself an area for later attaching the cover. This is the seam width from step 1. Next, it is up to you to figure out where the filters will fit in later on the card. Then simply mark it with a pencil.
Step 3: If all markings are set, take the cutter and cut into the marked places. Now you can put all of the color filter in place. Next, I turned the card over and readied the glue. I’ve marked the posts before, so I do not glue incorrectly. ;)
When the glue is on it, take the third card and stick it to fit perfectly. Now, the filters can’t slip out the back! I have also labeled the filters so I can reach for the right color even in poor lighting.
Step 4: In the end, you need your cover and again the glue. Now you can find the cover, glue it to the bent part on the card. For safety, I have also secured it with two hole punches, reinforced with two brass paper fasteners. These are needed but not necessarily if your glue is strong enough. :)
Step 5: The card also includes a very simple lock I’ve made with a cutter. You have to cut away a little from the Cover, a small slit in the bottom and you’re ready!
Step 6: Now you only need to be happy!! :)
If you like, you can be a little creative and paint the whole thing.
I hope you liked my little Tipster! :)
