For all of you who like shooting with your SLR, but need to get a little wacky why not try giving it a textured mask?!
I was looking at a few tipsters the other day and every time i came across something neat I sighed. All these cool creative projects seem to be lost on my poor Canon T70. Toy cameras are great, but my only toy camera (the supersampler) is currently broken! Shooting an SLR seems like serious business. No double exposures, no masks, no fun!
After a lot of browsing and thinking I came up with a great way to funify my Canon.
You will need:
-See-through plastic of any kind (I used some old packaging that I would have otherwise thrown out)
- A permanent marker
- Nail polish remover, or anything with rubbing alcohol in it (I actually used face cleansing pads!)
- Some paper towel
First what I did was I crumpled up the plastic which gave me a sort of textured cracked effect. To accent this effect I then coloured the sheet of plastic with my permanent marker and waited for it to dry. When it was dry I grabbed my alcoholic substance (whichever you choose…pretty much anything with alcohol in it will work) and I dabbed it on.
Note: Be sure not to rub off all of the permanent marker!
After getting rid of some of the permanent marker, I dabbed it dry with some paper towel (making sure not to rub it as that would result in streaks…unless you want streaks!!!)
Finally, grab your scissors and cut the piece of plastic down to size. The goal is to make it fit directly over the window on the inside of your camera that the film sits over. Once it is down tape it, making sure that it lies as flat as possible. Your camera should look something like this:
