New York, New York – the city that never sleeps…the Big Apple. After years of longing to visit, I finally got the chance last month and LOVED it!
I had high expectations of this gorgeous city and it didn’t let me down. The minute we landed and drove into NYC it felt as if we had driven onto a film set – yellow cabs, towering skyscrapers, steaming vents in the street – I could tell our short break away was going to be something to remember. But where do you start with only four days to cram in as much as possible?! We were reluctant to get lured into the same old tourist traps and wanted to do our own thing. Thankfully, we managed to see most of the sights we wanted and all on a budget too.
There’s loads to do for hardly any $$ – luckily for us the sun decided to shine all weekend, which meant we could take in a lot of the sights on foot. We were snap-happy in Central Park, wandered in awe around Grand Central Terminal and stumbled upon some cool pieces of street art along the way. When our feet got tired from all the stomping about, the subway made travelling around a cheap, and effortless alternative.
Another mode of transport worth checking out is the good old Staten Island Ferry – this orange freebie connects the island to Manhattan and on a sunny day, is a lovely way to get some shots of the Lower city skyline and the Statue of Liberty.
For some of the tourist attractions that need tickets, It’s worth booking online to save from queuing. We pre-booked the Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Centre) and enjoyed a beautiful sunny morning taking in the sights which were stunning!
Of course, we couldn’t go all this way and not check out the Lomo shop in the West Village. We managed to spend quite a bit of time in here, as well as $$!
All in all, we spent some fantastic days (and nights) in this amazing city. Of course, we couldn’t fit it all in during a long weekend and so I look forward to heading back to continue exploring!
