(Req. LCG HIT) Somewhere You'd Take Your Mum: The Royal Albert Hall

Somewhere to take your mum, well it’s got to be The Royal Albert Hall and if you can get it, go as ‘poshed’ up as you can and get a Box on the Grand Tier, so you can see everyone. Don’t forget the chocolates and champagne!

This amazing building is situated in South Kensington not far from all the museums and facing Hyde Park, it is perfectly placed for a wonderful day out in London. This hall was erected in the late 19th century, opened in 1871 and a grade I listed building it was built to be a place that would fulfill the dreams of the Queen’s consort, Prince Albert. A home for the appreciation of the Arts and Sciences alike. The V&A is just a short walk away from here.

These days the hall, is host to a vast range of events and musical styles from the expected classical extravaganzas to charity events and comedians, sports and rock bands now regularly use this venue as it can easily seat over 5,000 people in comfort. Exhibitions can also be held here and tours for adults and children alike are given, both backstage and more frequently, at the front of house where you can learn about the history, architecture, and the use of the building.

It is from here that you will see and hear the World Famous Proms held between July and September, the season for this is announced a few months before it starts and tickets sell quickly. It’s a good idea to go to their website for information and current ticket availability, you can sign up for regular notifications and sometimes there are offers!

Getting there is easy as it is situated just off Kensington Gore, if you come on the Tube, Bus, or Taxi, which is the most sensible thing to do, as access is from a number of stops. It is about ten minutes easy walk from them all, Kensington High Street in the West, Knightsbridge to the East, further South are Gloucester Road and of Course South Kensington which means you walk up Exhibition Road passing all the museums. This is an extremely busy station but access to the museums and the road is easy as you can just enter the tunnel which takes you in the correct direction.

Buses are 9,10,52,452,360 and 70.

Very nice pics :) I went on the tour about 18 months ago because I don't live in London any more, but they didn't allow any photos and made me feel like a criminal even with just my little LCA :(
