Isle of Skye, Scotland

An important center of Gaelic culture, it is known as “An t-Eilean Sgitheanach” (Scottish Gaelic), the Isle of Skye is the largest and most northerly of the Inner Hebrides. In ancient times this territory was contested by the clan MacLeod and Donald.

Among his many notable monuments including the castle of Armadale in the south, the ancient seat of Clan Donald, and Duvegan Castle in the north, which since the thirteenth century is still the home of the MacLeod clan.
You can reach the Isle of Skye across the bridge that connects to ground, or as we did, by ferry from Mallaig.
Although it would have been more comfortable to drive, I recommend hitchhiking on Skye. It seems that the farther away from “civilization” you get and the more isolated you are, the warmer the people are.
