Lost Paradise: Pandan Island

Are you a beach bum? Do you consider yourself content in spending most of the day in a hammock looking at the magnificent view of the beach? Are you into camping? Or do you want to explore the jungle rivers nearby using a kayak? Or what about scuba diving and see the corals of Apo Reef? If your answer to all questions is YES, then don’t think twice about visiting Pandan Island in Mindoro!

Pandan Island is a private island with a small resort on the west coast of Occidental Mindoro, Central Philippines. This tropical island has been voted time and again as one of the top resorts in the Philippines, not in terms of luxury but for its quality of life and relaxed atmosphere. It was said to be discovered by a French adventurer in 1986 who has now established his own resort here to promote the place.

I’ve been to Occidental Mindoro several times but it was only recently that I found out about the existence of this beautiful island thanks to a friend who lives nearby. Don’t be surprised that there are actually more foreigners than local tourists who stay in this place.

It is easy to go to Pandan although it may take some time because it’s a remote place. From Manila, you have to take a bus going to Batangas Pier then ride a ferry to Abra de Ilog. After that, one must take a bus or a van to Sablayan then from the port a 20-min boat ride to Pandan Island. It’s definitely worth the travel, believe me. Once you step foot on this island, you will feel relaxed and free from worries.

Too bad we were not able to see small pawikans (Yes! There are sea turtles at the back of the island during their season). This site was just a bonus considering the ambiance. We really had a great time here. The view itself was amazing! We felt like we were in a lost paradise because only a few people were there. We really got to enjoy and explore the place. I hope the government and the people will continue to preserve its beauty.
