The Coast Track walk of Royal National Park offers one of the most pristine coastlines of eastern Australia. With stunning coastal cliffs, big crashing waves, and isolated beaches, you’ll need plenty of film to satisfy your eyes here!
Luckily I used to live just a 45-minute drive south of the Royal National Park for almost 2 years and I can positively say that I am in love with the coastline of New South Wales – it’s really very beautiful. Royal National Park, is just 30km south of Sydney, it was declared a National Park in 1879, making it Australia’s oldest National Park and the second oldest in the world after Yellowstone National Park in the United States.
There are many walking tracks throughout the park but I’m focusing on the Coast Track as it is the most beautiful, pristine, and accessible for a walk. The energetic can complete the entire 26km length of the Coast Track but if you’re like me, just a few hours spent walking along a 6km section of the track is perfect.
Anytime of the year is a good time to walk the Coast Track. Autumn is great for whale watching, spring is awash with the colour of wildflowers, a bright summer day will give you the opportunity to cool off with a swim at one of the lagoons, pools or beaches and for those attempting the long 26km coast walk, a sunny late-winter day is perfect. I recently visited the park on a bright and early summer morning – the first visit with my Diana F+ !
I started my walk at the Wattamolla picnic area, which offers a kiosk, toilets, and a picnic area along with a sheltered lagoon which is great for families with young children. My walk ends in Bundeena, a small coastal town on Sydney’s Port Hacking (hint:lunch at one of the cafes here is a great way to end the walk!). About halfway along there is a lagoon and two beaches at Marley Head simply called, Marley and Little Marley. This is a great spot for a swim, fish or to just relax and take in the spectacular view.
As they say, a picture speaks a thousand words so take a look at my photos for a sneak peek of all that this amazing Coast Walk has to offer.
Remember, a visit to Sydney is not complete without seeing the amazing rugged coastline of Royal National Park – guaranteed to take your breath away!
