Practice your night photography as the Northern Lights hit the UK!

Get up somewhere high, cross your fingers for a clear night and prepare your camera for a night shot, as the Northern Lights are passing over the UK for the next couple of nights!

According to the weathermen Aurora Borealis, that most rare phenomenon, will show itself in the UK skies for the next couple of nights, following on from an intense sun storm that has generated at least three solar flares.

The effect is fast moving and shimmering, but you should be able to catch it, if you’re ready! We recommend using the Diana with some high speed film, such as Lomography Colour Negative 800, set to the B setting, or making the most of the light meter built in to the LC-A+

If you manage to capture it put a link to your shots in the comments below, and as far as we know you’ll be the first ever UK Lomographer to catch this elusive sight on film (certainly none of us at Lomography UK have, despite numerous trips to Iceland!)

I haven't got this on film but I've seen it multiple times because I live so far up north in Sweden, actually just saw it a few days ago, all over the sky. :) I didn't know you could see it in the UK, you can't even see it in the south of Sweden?

I recommend using a cable release thread and a tripod and do a really long shot in a very dark, secluded place without city lights etc. Amps the photos and the experience :)

I wish I could go there. I always dream I would see northern light right in front of my eyes.

Oh my god - where to find somewhere without lights in London?!! Altho maybe they won't be visible this far south :o(

@lighttomysoul - we never usually see them in the UK, that's why this is so special! it's only because of an unusually large storm on the sun at the moment
