Morocco - Off the Beaten Track and Along the Coast

Morocco, seen as the meeting place for both Western and Eastern Cultures is often only experienced by many through the hustle and bustle of its capital Marrakech – but if you dare to venture off the beaten track and along its magical coastline then there is much more to discover.

Craving for an adventure and a taste of differing cultures from the all too similar here in the UK, I decided to travel to Morocco, a country that is said to have a great combination of “East Meets West” and so packed my bags but more importantly my dusty Lubitel and headed out there. Upon arriving in the capital, Marrakech I was bombarded with smells, colours, and distinctive characters, I was blown away but felt that there was more to this beautiful country. And so again with itchy feet, I took off and headed down the coast in search of tranquility and a different view on life, and in doing so, stumbled across the charming fishing town of Essaouira.

Known for its dependency on the sea, be it tourism from the many surfers, wind surfers, and nautical adventurers to the numerous local fishermen who rely on the high fish supplies found off the coast it is both peaceful, magical and like the waves that ensure the survival for many locals; soothing.

When I felt that I had overstayed my welcome in this lovely place I decided it was time to return to the UK, but not before a wonderful and mislead stumble back up the coast finding confused villagers and helpful farmers; and remember: “Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail”. (Emerson)
