FIB: Music on the Beach, What More Can You Ask For?

At last, after years of failed attempts, this year we finally got it right (money and time off). So last January we bought our four-day passes for Benicássim!

I’d never been to a festival like this one, so I was taken aback by everything I saw: the site, the brilliant atmosphere, the amount of people. There were less people than previous years so there were fewer crowds, except for the “big” concerts (we couldn’t believe the Kasabian set). It was pretty hot, but nothing that couldn’t be solved with a glass of horchata or a beer and a good fan.

Musically speaking, I instantly fell in love. Although, to be honest, I’d never heard of many the groups. I was enamoured by the charms of Love of Lesbian, I loved how Julian Casablancas played tons of Stokes songs and I relished all the energy coming off Vampire Weekend. But my favourite was Gorillaz. Not only because of their amazing show and the guests they bring to every concert, but just to see and hear Damon Alban – I’m a big fan of Blur. I have to say, I didn’t see many lomographers in the audience (I expected to see more, maybe they were there somewhere amongst the crowds), but there were a fair number lomomusicians. They didn’t hesitate in getting in a few shots between songs or at the end of their sets! I didn’t want to be left out so I took my Fisheye and Diana Mini out every night and tried out my black & white and slide films.

But because, as well as concerts and parties, we also wanted to start our holidays off with a good tan we went to the beach every day. The perfect place to refresh ourselves and have a little siesta to recharge our batteries. That’s where I shot my first black & white underwater photos and some experiments with the Diana Mini which came out overexposed.

I definitely recommend the FIB if you’re looking to spend a few days on the beach with good music and the chance to experiment with your cameras!!!
