Viña del Mar is a city that you will instantly fall in love with. Its beaches, pure air, nice people, and important landmarks make a visit to Viña del Mar very worthwhile while you are in Chile. Let me take you on a tour of Viña del Mar, my hometown.
Viña del Mar is Chile’s main tourist attraction. The town has long stretches of white sand beaches that are a attraction for national and international tourists. This coastal city is known as La Ciudad Jardín or “The Garden City”, Viña del Mar is near Valparaíso – for the people who live in Viña del Mar, Valparaiso and Viña is almost the same. Trips between these cities are scheduled daily.
Viña del Mar is best known as a tourist and beach resort destination, its white sand beaches include Reñaca Beach and Las Salinas Beach. A major attraction is its Viña del Mar Municipal Casino founded in 1930; it is one the oldest gambling establishments in South America.
Each summer in late February, the town hosts its Viña del Mar International Song Festival. The Festival grounds is nestled in the striking natural tree lined hill of Quinta Vergara Amphitheater. Another major attraction is the Viña del Mar Film Festival, founded in 1967 as the First Latin American Film Festival and was also the first gathering of Latin American filmmakers.
I’ve been living in Viña del Mar since I was born. I love my city. I think I can’t live in another place. Viña del Mar, with its beautiful beaches and pure air makes it easy to love it even at first glance. I actually hate it (a bit) when so many people come over during the summer, as you can say goodbye to the relaxing quietness. But Viña is still amazing anyway.
