Barcelona's Charming

As what normally happens, you don’t appreciate what you have in your city until you have to show it to a foreigner who comes to visit.

This is what happened to me after 21 years I have been living in Barcelona. I remember that, when I was a child, I visited Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia with my parents or even with the school, but without paying much attention. I also remember I visited the Parc Güell, but at the age of 6 or 7 you can’t appreciate anything.

A couple of weeks ago, I was with a friend who came from Italy and we decided to take a tour of Barcelona to show her the most emblematic building of my city. We started with the Sagrada Família. It’s a cathedral (still unfinished) designed by the great Gaudí.

After taking some photos, we went towards the Arc de Triomf and the Parc de la Ciutadella. Although the Arc de Triomf is not very different from all other arches, highlight is that it’s located near a beautiful and huge park with grass, palm trees, lakes, fountains and even a mammoth.

Later, after dinner, we took the subway to go to Paseo de Gracia and the Pedrera. This huge street has beautiful lamps with ceramic benches and iconic buildings like the Casa Batlló and the Casa Mila (commonly known as La Pedrera).

Finally we arrived at the center of Barcelona and from there, we cross down La Rambla and we stopped in front of the famous Mercat de la Boqueria to buy the famous natural fruit juices.

Once we arrived at the end of La Rambla, we found the famous monument of Colón. The sculpture is 60 feet and on top of the huge column, there is a statue of Christopher Columbus pointing to America.

To finish our express visit of Barcelona, we arrived at the harbor and ended up walking along the promenade.

Of course, there were a thousand of things that we weren’t able to see, but we have already programmed a second visit. Those who aren’t from Barcelona, I recommend you to come to spend a few days and to those who are already living here, it never hurts to be a tourist in your own town for a day.
