Taiwan's National Scenic Area - Sun Moon Lake (日月潭)

Sparkling blue water set against a picturesque mountain backdrop, Sun Moon Lake is the largest lake in Taiwan and a traditional spot for newlywed couples to take their honeymoon. It has also been a center of aboriginal life for thousands of years, with aboriginal people involved in its tourism industry since the 1930s.

Sun Moon Lake is in Nantou County of Taiwan. I took the High Speed Rail from Taiwan over to Taichung to visit a family friend, and with their recommendation, we visited Sun Moon Lake. It’s said to have a mesmerizing view, especially during sunrise and sunset. Unfortunately, when I visited the area, rain started to pour! It was gloomy and the lake was misty, thus I was unable to take the ferry around the lake to visit the scenic areas and take more photos.

So, I was confined to the temple by the lake – Wenwu Temple (文武廟) – The biggest temple on the Northern bank of the lake. It has beautiful architecture. Shame that I did not have the nature light to take more flattering photographs.

If you’re heading to Taiwan, spare a day or two, visit the Sun Moon Lake and the neighboring areas where aborigines thrive!
