A Lomo Lubitel 166+ Dream Team

2008-10-15 2

The Lomo Lubitel 166+ is a remarkably versatile camera. With the right film, some patience, and a cable release, you can pretty much shoot in any conditions, and not even be limited to one possible option to get the right exposure. Because of the multitude of possible settings, you can shoot long exposures at f-stop 16 or even 22 for great depth of field, or even shorten your exposure a bit at a smaller f-stop and take portraits in any light. The Lubitel+ doesn’t mind, because it puts complete control in your hands in every way.

The Lubitel+ doesn’t mind, because it puts complete control in your hands in every way.

This time around we’ve created a Dream Team that makes the Lubitel+ really shine in all its glory.

Take one Lubitel 166+, one cable release, and a pack of the impeccable Provia 400X 120 slide film, and you’re ready to get bold color saturation with incredible clarity, with only a slight green color-shift when cross-processing and some of the finest grain possible from a slide film. This is truly one of the best slide films on the market right now, and at 400asa it suits the Lubitel+ for any conditions from bright sun at 22/250, 22/125, 16/125 or 11/250 – or in low light shooting all the way down to B and 4.5. Just keep the camera still on a table or tripod, and let the light pour in.

Cinematographer Michal Dabal on the Petzval Lens

Here’s what happens before we interview a photographer. We gush about the work though we have yet to find out the cameras and processes behind the brilliant composition or the light architecture. And even when they haven’t used a Lomo camera, we feature them anyway. But every once in a while comes a pro who uses one of our premium lenses at work and our fun cameras off-duty. This makes us mighty glad, more so when their images are good and worth sharing. We count cinematographer Michal Dabal's work among them.
