The State Fair of Texas is an annual celebration of food, fun, and Texas culture. You’ll find concerts, live dance performances, farm animals, cowboys, carnival games, and an amazing assortment of unique fried foods! A great event to attend if you find yourself in Dallas during September and October!
The State Fair of Texas happens every year from the end of September to the end of October. Inevitably, everyone’s trip starts with a greeting from Big Tex, a giant talking cowboy statue.
Upon entering the Fair grounds, be ready for a family-friendly day of carnival games, photo ops, concerts, dance performances, and an impressive array of unhealthy…yet delicious food! The State Fair of Texas is notorious for its yearly fried food competitions. Prizes are given for Best Tasting Fried Food and Most Creative Fried Food. Past winners include: Fried Ice Cream, Fried Lemonade, Fried Twinkies…and, if you can imagine it, Fried BEER, and Fried SALAD! Every year, you can hear North Texans ask each other if they’ve sampled the new crazy array of fried concoctions!
There’s more to this carnival than just food, though. Be sure that you make time to ride the biggest Ferris Wheel in the state of Texas. (Insider’s tip: If you ride in the evening, you’ll catch a breathtaking view of the sun setting over the Dallas skyline.)
You can also see farm animals, cowboys, and wild bird shows (featuring flying hawks, storks, and tropical macaws).
A yearly tradition since 1886, it’s so highly anticipated that the countdown’s already begun on the website :)
Always full of surprises and adventurous foods to try. It’s an event worth attending if you find yourself near Dallas in the Fall!
