Everyone has already heard of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C. but have you ever seen the VA War Memorial? Here’s another example of Virginia’s constant attempt to do it better than the rest of the US.
The name Virginia War Memorial pretty much speaks for itself; its image even more so. Because of this, I will let the memorial speak for itself and say as little as possible. I’ve lived in Richmond for several years, but have somehow never made it over to the memorial. Worse, it’s very close to where I live. And even worse, I’ve never seen anyone else there while passing by. Memorials are there for us to remember.
I decided to stop by one day and quickly made the decision to go back at night and shoot it.
The Virginia War Memorial commemorates the loss of life of all Virginians in wars since WWII.
It’s sad to see so many people drive by without ever stopping here. Memorials are silent places but should never be empty of people.
How can we be moved without ever seeing inside?
Pay your respects to those who came before you and visit their memories.
Photograph your nation’s memorials and memorialize them forever in yourself.
