Capitol Hill

This place is lomographic magic. Mother nature and (father?) city all in one happy little plaza. Last April, I got the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. This was the city in which I bought my very first lomographic camera! I picked up the lomo fisheye no. 1 at an Urban Outfitters store and started shooting right away.

These results were TRULY unpredictable, as I wasn’t even sure if I was loading the film right… I just kept shooting!

Every day dozens politicians bustle about the frequently crowded area surrounding the United States capitol building. It’s a little uncomfortable at first, to be honest. Everyone’s dressed really nicely and look important and busy. As soon as you relax and start clicking away, you realize what a wonderful place it is! There are tons of parks and reflecting pools, fountains, buildings, people, trees, flowers, courtyards… this place is huge!

The colors… oh the colors! The white capitol, the green grass, the many-colored trees from around the world, the old brick, the streets, the sculptures… it’s overwhelming! I shot 2 rolls of film in this awesome place, and would have shot more if I’d been there longer!

Personally, the most wonderful spot of Capitol Hill is The Grotto. Lord knows what it is… A little building with a drinking fountain in it, but man is it beautiful! It’s surrounded by bushes and trees and spectacular flowers and made of brilliant red brick!

If you ever get the chance to take a camera out to this place, DO IT. You won’t regret it, especially you avid flower photographers. There’s a botanical garden featuring plants from every continent (except that big cold one…) right across the street!
