Jökulsárlón - In the Land of Fire and Ice

Welcome to Iceland, where fire literally meets ice, not only Bjork puts Iceland on the map but also places like Jökulsárlón. Planning on going here for a trip? Well make sure to load up on film as there wouldn’t be any film shops available on the way to this place. You certainly can’t miss out on the amazing photo opportunities that this place offers.

Always been inspired by Iceland, the beautiful land which has an incredible amount of untouched nature.
Jökulsárlón (it means Glacier Lagoon), is a deep lake clustered with floating icebergs, between the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier and a ridge of glacial till. It is located in south eastern Iceland, about 400-450 kilometers from Reykjavik (the capital of Iceland) so be sure to bring as much film with you as you can because there won’t be any photo labs on the way. The road is pretty easy, all you have to do is take National Highway 1 (which is the main road and goes around Iceland) after a 4-5 hour drive (without stopping, and let’s face it there are a lot of waterfalls and beautiful views as well as the Eyjafjallajökull glacier and volcano which stopped all flights in Europe, so the trip will probably take whole day) and be sure to take a waterproof winter coat and wear waterproof shoes

Jökulsárlón was formed when the large Breiðarmerkurjökull glacier retreated in the later part of the 20th century revealing a deep valley filled with water which was carved in over the centuries. As with all natural attractions in Iceland, there is no entrance fee but for $15 you can take a boat tour through the icebergs at certain parts of the year and hear interesting facts about this part of the land. The place is definitely worth checking out while you are in Iceland
