LC-A Big Book Chapter 56: The LOMO Kompakt Automat

2011-02-23

As the young LOMO LC-A’s hit the shops and supermarkets, the production of the little camera was constantly increasing and the building of the “Filiale”, a 100,000 squaremetre extra-building for LOMO LC-A production purposes, was finished in 1985/1986.

In 1982 the environment was perfect and ready for the arrival of one of the most important and prestigious directives the factory had ever received. Vice Defence Minister Kornitsky was so impressed with the Japanese Cosina CX-2 that he commissioned LOMO PLC to develop and mass produce a very similar replica. It was his belief that all hard-working Soviet citizens should fully partake in the joys of modern photography! Thus work began on what would soon become the legendary Lomo LC-A camera. As soon as the task was fulfilled, when Kholomyansky finished the construction plans in record time and Olga Tsvetkova was heating up the giant assembling line of 500 workers, the camera went into mass-production, in 1984. As the young LOMO LC-A’s hit the shops and supermarkets, the production of the little camera was constantly increasing and the building of the “Filiale”, a 100,000 squaremetre extra-building for LOMO LC-A production purposes, was finished in 1985/1986.

It was in 1988 that the LOMO LC-A production came to its full bloom and maximum production lasted until 1991. 15,000 cameras per month were produced during this time. For more information check out the detailed history of the LOMO LCA and its production on page 60 of this book.
