Cosina CX, Whateva! I Love Her!!!

5

At first there was COSINA CX 1, then COSINA CX2… As the camera®evolution was growing in the 1980´s, many camera factories were trying to make a perfect camera! A camera suitable for tourists, their families, for everyday people in this beautiful World. If LOMO LCA was the begining of Lomography, then COSINA CX was the begining of LOMO LCA

I’m sitting here, in my music studio and writing this camera review. This jazzy atmosphere brings me all the memories connected with my analogue cameras I felt in love… Corina, Holga, Diana, Smena, Vilia and so on and so on…

One of these cameras was my Cosina CX2 which was along with Cosina CX1 the heart and soul for the worldwide famous LOMO LC-A. You can find too many information about this piece of history on the web, also here on lomography.com.

Nevermind…My Cosina is a limited PORST 135 edition, so it is my pleasure to introduce you my extra-extraordinary Cosina camera! Let me call her a Beauty! I bought her on a auction for 30 euros as a cat in a bag. A man who was selling me this treasure (as a cosina cx2) at that time, did not know if she was healthy or dead for years… I got her earlier than the Lomo LC-A, so „she“ was my gateway to Lomography.

As you can see, there is one major difference between the LOMO LC-A and a COSINA camera. Yes, absolutely! It is a front mask which hides the lens! Other things like counter, settings even the shutter are quite similar and the interior of this black beauty is similar too…I think (huh).
Cosina is a half-automat compact, which means the only thing you have to do is, to set a distance…or focus… 0,9m, 1,5m, 3m, or infinity. The distance settings are situated under the lens, you can easily find it after opening the front mask, turning it right. After doing that you can shot shot shot everything around you without a problem.. eeeh, do not forget the batteries. You would not be able to make pictures without the little LR44 comrades in your camera! For best results, you should set your ISO settings in the front of your camera in the right. You can choose from 25 ISO to 400 ISO…nothing extra! But with a Lomography’s slide (film) you will be able to make magical shots!

There is one extra thing which the original LOMO LCA missing… a timer!! Which is awesome for group photos including yourself! Her flash hotshoe help you to make some crazy shots at night with a ordinary flash (for example a diana flash).
I love the mask! I love the camera! I love the way she moves! I love her design, her look, her touch and her snapshots of course! All the vignettes, color saturation, blurry – dreamy – creamy effects, all the small things which makes her a perfect partner for bright sunny days and dark party nights too. I have shot many shots with her help… some of them were perfect, some of them not, but the fact is that this makes her interesting, artistic and lovely!

Later I bought a LOMO LC-A to my collection and my princess Cosina retired on my camera wall! But wait!!!!!!! Just for the fact I do not want to harm, destroy or lose her anymore… I can buy an LC-A everyday. But what about Cosina? Hmm???

Please have a look…my black beauty Cosina „PORST“ CX whateva!

Useful Tips:
-Snap at the bright sunny day for awesome vignettes!
-Use a film used for crossprocess for the best results!
-If you going to a party, do not forget a flash!
