Attention Lomographers and Kodachrome enthusiasts in the USA! Here’s your chance to get a slice of history!
A co-worker of mine was cleaning out his office and discovered a stash of Kodachrome film! He kindly offered me this treasure and I accepted with delight. I knew that Kodachrome was no longer being made but I did not know that there is only ONE place in the western hemisphere (Dwayne’s Photo, Kansas City USA) that still develops Kodachrome, and even more surprising was that this place will no longer develop Kodachrome as of DECEMEBER 30th 2010! Yes, this is the December 30th that is 2 weeks away.
And this is why I am writing. I will not be able to shoot all of these rolls of film in time and I need your help. I am willing to send out a roll or two to a few people that reply with their contact information and desire to be a part of this project. There are some conditions to this though:
1. I am looking for people in the U.S. because postage and time to send the film will be too much (I know, I know, I’m sorry about this)
2. You have to promise to shoot and send the film to get developed before the due date! Give your Lomographer’s word on this….
3. You need to post your photos to this site or send them to me so we can make a big posting of the last rolls of Kodachrome. Maybe the fine folks at Lomography will even make this a competition of sorts!
Happy shooting! Be creative, tell a story, have fun. Remember, Kodachrome has been discontinued and the developing will cease to exist within a few weeks…It’s the end of an era.
Keep in mind that this film has been in a lead lined bag sitting in an office for I don’t know how many years so I cannot vouch for the quality of photos you can get out of them, but this is an exciting project and your last chance to shoot and develop a roll of Kodachrome.
Information about developing Kodachrome at Dwayne’s Photo can be found here
From Dwayne’s Photo:
Kodachrome Film Status: The last day of processing for all types of Kodachrome film will be December 30th, 2010. The last day Kodak will accept prepaid Kodachrome film in Europe is November 30th, 2010. Film that is not in our lab by noon on December 30th will not be processed.
I will keep people updated when I know more about how we can post all of our images together .
