On Friday, November 19th, 2010, Lomography opened its second store in NYC in the historic Gramercy district with one of the most spectacular parties in recent memory. Read the full recap and check out the first digital photos and video from the incredible night!
The buzz in New York had reached a fever pitch. The Big Apple had shown their analogue love at the first Lomography Gallery Store in Greenwich Village for the past 2 years, and it was clear that they wanted more. After weeks of hard work and sweat at this true labor of love, we were ready to unveil the newest Lomography Gallery Store in New York’s Gramercy district, and open the doors for the first time to a throbbing horde of Lomographers and onlookers.
The beer and vodka were chilled to perfection, the mouth-watering sandwiches from Katz’s deli were piled high, and Ben “DJ Burger King” Kupstas had his prized vinyl collection lined up and ready to spin. The party was scheduled to start at 7:00pm, but the crowd couldn’t wait, and by 6:30 we already had a packed house.
They lined up down the street to get a glimpse of what can only be described as one of the most epic and astounding LomoWalls ever built. And by the time The Stumblebum Brass Band launched into their first number (after their tuba player arrived from a gig at Sing Sing prison earlier that evening), the feeling in the room was electric.
Thank you, New York City, for the outpouring of love and support for Lomography over the past years. We couldn’t do any of this without you. This store is for you, and we promise to fill it with workshops, parties, events and exhibitions that you can be a part of, and so much more. Stay tuned for all the fun coming soon!
For now, check out these photos and a video, and stayed tuned for more updates in the coming days, including recaps of the first two workshops ever held at the new Lomography Gallery Store NYC Gramercy!
