DNA on the Bay!

Singapore unveiled the World’s first curved double helix bridge at Marina Bay on 24th April, 2010. The DNA inspired Helix Bridge links the Marina Center to the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resorts, enabling pedestrian traffic between these 2 locations.

If you are in the vicinity of the Marina Center floating platform, you will be hard pressed to miss this unique bridge spanning across the Marina Bay. The Helix Bridge (formerly known as the Double Helix Bridge), which spans 280 meters, is the world’s first double helix bridge and is already hailed as a great engineering and architectural feat.

Located at the entrance of the Helix Bridge is the Youth Olympic Park, which was built to commemorate the 1st Youth Olympic Games held in Singapore in 2010. The Youth Olympic Park is the first art park in Singapore and currently features 27 pieces of art by local youths, depicting life’s aspirations.

The Helix Bridge has night lighting features along its length, which can be programmed to bring out the mood of various events being held in the vicinity.

As you walk along the Helix Bridge heading towards Marina Bay Sands, you will notice two pairs of coloured letters c and g, a, and t on the bridge which are lit up at night in red and green. These letters represent cytosine, guanine, adenine and thymine, which are the four bases of DNA.

On the Helix Bridge, there are five viewing platforms whereby you can get a good view of the Singapore skyline and events taking place in Marina Bay. However, be prepared to squeeze through the crowd, especially during the New Year’s Eve countdown and the National Day fireworks display.

When you reach the other end of the Helix Bridge, you will be greeted by the majestic sight of the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resorts (IR). In the IR, you can treat yourself to some delicious food in the many F&B outlets or indulge in some retail therapy. Last but not least, you can try your luck at the Casino and you might win some $$ for your next Lomo cameras.

@vicuna: yes, it is Singapore's up and coming financial district. Best time to visit would be Aug (National Day period) or Sep (Formula 1).
