If you need someone to be all things in all photographic situations, call the nug. He travels, he poses, he hangs out in dark rooms perfectly still, and sometimes he wears a mask. Oh did I mention he’s not afraid make sexy suggestions?
I don’t know if you guys remember when a couple weeks back LSI gave a shout out for more LomoPeople entries but in that post was a lovely picture of a gentle monkey man relaxing on the beach. Yeah yeah that one. Well that’s the nug. Kevinlj182 in other words. It took me a while to sit down and write this but I figured I should pay tribute to the LSI gods for using his pic and pay tribute to the man for all he has put up with over the past year.
When I first met this guy I found out we had a lot in common, heritage, a birthday, and an affinity for film photography. He even got so excited about the analogue life that he made his own profile on LSI and dug out his old handprocessed negatives and started uploading. What was most striking about this little guy though was his willingness to let me use him as a prop. When you look at my most popular long exposures you are probably gonna find him. The leprechaun, the guy breathing colored fire, the yellow fart cloud… it’s all him. He can just stay still for a very long time while I run around with my flashlights, oh he is so patient.
This guy also has the midas touch when it comes to LSI contests. I get an idea for a photo to submit and he is more than willing to go along. The best thing is that he is a pretty crappy participant in the creative process. He always throws me off with his last minute ideas, he doesn’t want to do the same pose twice (even if I’m not sure on exposure), and he usually thinks he has a better vision. Truth is that he is usually right. The whole moving movies double contest win was based on his last minute changes to my concept. Before this guy came around I scored a couple runner-ups in big contests but he’s the guy who puts me over the edge.
Did I mention that he likes to travel with me? He is willing to go to crazy public places and do almost anything for a cool photo. He is more than willing to be half nude at a street fair and let jockstrapped leather daddies lift him up and pretend to put hands in just for a fun pic. He will throw a mask on and jump around the zoo for a cool shot. He will even put on a robe and dig holes in the yard if the art demands. There are so many reasons to enjoy this little friend in all his glory. You can check him out in my shots or even take a stroll on over to his lomohome. I may not be Justin but he came along justin time to give my photo journey new life.
