Yashica Electro 35GTN

A black version of Yashica Electro 35 GSN with aperture priority. I guess everyone have heard of rangefinder camera. But I don’t think everyone know how it function exactly. Rangefinder cameras allow the photographer to measure the distance precisely and capture a photo which is sharp in focus. In the center of viewfinder, you will see two images, when object is in focus; the two image will overlapped and become one image as you turn the focus ring. So, let me introduce the Yashica Electro 35GTN range finder camera to all of you!

This camera is suitable for photographers which like heavy and solid built body, and also big aperture lens.

The original Electro came out around 1966, this camera is a new type of rangefinder because this is the first rangefinder which use all electronic, stepless shutter mechanism. A stepless shutter mechanism means that it will have all combination of shutter speed range from 1/500s to 30s such as 1/4.5s instead to 1/4s to give precise exposure to the film. The revolutionary shutter was powered by an electro magnet and this is how the camera got its fame and name.

This camera uses 35mm film and it is an aperture priority camera. It means that it will select the correct shutter speed when you adjust the aperture. This camera is equipped with a 45mm F/1.7 Yashinon DX lens. It allows you to have more control over the depth of field. There are two indications light to bring alert to you when it uses slow shutter speed and overexposure. There are 3 modes in this camera, auto(aperture priority), bulb mode, and flash mode. It has a hot shoe and a shutter release thread and a tripod thread as well.

I know this camera from Lomography website and I found this camera in a second hand buy and sell shop. I love to use this camera with all sorts of film such as fuji velvia (xpro) and also lomographic negative film. It gives me saturate color as well as nice depth of field. By setting the smaller aperture you could have longer exposure and I’ve use this camera to capture waterfall as well as night scenery shot.

If you want to try a rangefinder camera with a reasonable price, this is the camera you looking for. It gives shallow depth of field and it is suitable to shoot at indoor with its big aperture lens.
