The LomoLuck First issue: My Diana F+

2011-01-19 16

Seven lomolucky years to whoever likes this review!

I’m a very fortunate girl: I’m LOMOLUCKY. I’m going to tell you what this is all about through my Lomography cameras. I’ll start from the very beginning: my Diana F+ and its history.

Once I passed the Lomography Embassy of Madrid and saw a suited guy inside the store. “Wow, that guy looks just like my brother!”, I thought while walking. “What does a guy like my brother do in this store?”, I kept on thinking… “F**k, it’s my brother!” When I turned around I saw Salvador stepping out with a huge wrapped up gift and told him: “Hey, what are you doing here?, who is that for?”, and mumbling he confessed: “eh… uh… eh… here, it’s for you, you caught me… eh… uh… eh”.

I had a Diana F+ Deluxe Kit in my hands, a beautiful case and three films ready to be shot. It wasn’t my birthday or any special day, you can imagine the dumping of joy in the middle of the street, the girls in the store still remember that day. Here are some of the first pictures I took, including of course my brother’s portrait.

.

I really love my Diana F+. It’s a plastic camera that reproduces the original created in Hong Kong back in the sixties. Unexpected colours and soft focus slips through it’s marvelous lens. It’s what I would call a very versatile camera, with many interchangeable lenses ( wide angle, super wide angle, fisheye, tele, macro), a lovely flash and filters, the option to do double exposures, long exposures and pinhole mode, one of it’s great charms. It uses 120mm film, but you can find a 35mm film adaptor. As I’m lomolucky, my kit had all the lenses, the flash, the 35mm adaptor and a cable release, but you can find the gadgets separately, so everybody can build their kit step by step.

When you shoot a Diana the colours are special, the lights are magical and the focus softens. And you get the vignette that makes every picture marvelous.

The Diana’s history is Amazing, so the most curious people can dig here to find out all there’s to know. You can also see this camera’s different and great clones that could make having one Diana not enough.

Lomoluck to everybody, Susie.

And remember, if you click “I like” you will have lomolucky for 7 years…

Guess Who’s Back… The Fleeting Return of the Lomography Color Negative F²/400 Film

Earlier this year we were chuffed to launch a very memorable type of 35mm film: the Lomography Color Negative F²/400. We had recovered it from the last ever supply of an Italian filmmaker, and stocked it for seven years in special conditions. Much sought after for the film's nostalgic aesthetic, beautiful blue tones, with hints of X-Pro character, the F²/400 35mm rolls flew off our shelves like hotcakes – and rapidly went out of stock worldwide.

    Vintage Camera Reviews: Kodak Autographic

The Kodak Autographic is the first really old camera I bought. I didn’t really know how it worked and had no idea that this nearly century-old camera would kick off a passion for collecting, fixing, and shooting with vintage cameras.
