It was in 2007 when I first came to Berlin and it was love at first sight! Unfortunately, I was only there for a 10-day vacation. Still, memories of that trip never failed to excite me even as I wandered around in my old hometown. As fate would have it, a year later, I met the love of my life, who, coincidentally, was living in Berlin! So I made the big leap – I got married and moved to Berlin! And to this day, that still holds the top spot as the best decision I’ve ever made!
Berlin is simply beautiful. Not really in a luxurious, wealthy type of beauty but Berlin has something special about it – especially if you take the time to discover it.
You can walk for hours on end on its long and beautiful streets that are surrounded by linden trees or you can take the subway, which happens to be one of the biggest transportation networks in Europe. It’s not easy to get over of the blue-grey sky, amazing architecture, and cool people. There are so many young people from all over the world! In Berlin, you can always meet a Korean friend in a Turkish bistro while trying to talk German in between sips of your Italian espresso.
Berlin is one of the most picturesque locations in the world. It served as the setting for countless novels and movies as well as a source of inspiration for many songs. That’s the reason why I love walking on the streets with my Diana Mini or Praktica, made in GDR. And if you visit certain places, you can also learn about European (even world) history that a one-semester course can never provide.
Of course, it’s not a city for water babies or those who love going to the beach; it’s more of a paradise for those who find enjoyment downing a cup of coffee on a rainy day.
