Lomos Under the Sea

A walk under the sea by the hand of a stranger

Last August, after six long weeks in London, I decided to escape six days to Lanzarote in the sun, get ready for back to school and fill the bag of rolls.

The day before the trip, I had everything ready. My Diana Mini with 3 reels of Lomography X-Pro and I found a bargain online to do some underwater photos as we had planned to do snorkeling.

But to my surprise, I discovered that my little Diana had a bug in the trigger and every time he took a picture, the lens would open. I did not realize until I tried to take some pictures at night with the flash that it did not shoot. At first I thought it was a something with the flash and not the camera, but after checking the camera, it worked perfectly. When I opened the camera, I realized I definitely was not going to use it any more during the trip (and the reels that were used were broken).

At least I had the comfort of the underwater camera. His name is Aquapix underwater and it is a small plastic camera with a 28mm lens and manual advance. It includes a waterproof housing that allows you to immerse it up to 3 or 4 meters. Not that this is a gem, but it has been great for me to fulfill my purpose and to take pictures of our marine excursion.

An hour after landing the plane and were ready with their fins, tubes … and my camera! But aside lomosuerte wanted me back and after an hour of diving and saw a reel that had gotten inside the camera. I was not sure if the reel had gotten wet, so I kept it just in case. When I returned to Madrid one week later, I had placed it in a glass of rice to absorb any drop of water that could have entered.
I also fixed the problem of the leak in the camera and the next day I went back to the beach to swim.

I did not take any more photos throughout the trip and I had no other camera with which to do so! But fortunately when I went to pick up the photos, I was pleasantly surprised to see that all the photos had come out and at least for a beginner, I get good results.

After figuring out that the camera broke in Madrid, I contacted the eBay seller. He was very kind and sent me a brand new camera without charging any money.
