Castle of Santa Catalina

These shots were taken at the Cruz to the Castillo de Santa Catalina at Jaén city. Jaén city is situated 82 km from Granada and you can get the buses to drive there every half hour in the bus-station at Granada and the trip takes around one hour. The city has a lots of things to lomo and to see and one of those things is the cross (see my photos) that is situated on top of the highest mountain near the city. On this place it is possible to see the whole town of Jaén, all the surrounding mountains and landscape with olive trees.

There you can understand why they say that the city has one sea, the olive field sea that stretches till where your eyes can see. There is also a castle on top of the mountain, it was built by the Arabians when they used to live in this region of Europe but the actual construction is from the Christians. They made some smaller changes, but kept the main towers and the water system. After this the French Napoleon soldiers exploded half of the castle before they left for not leaving any kind of structure that could be used again by the Spanish people to defend themselves. After this they started the reconstruct this destroyed part that is inside of the castle and till today they are discovering lots of archaeological things. These shots were taken on the Santa Catalina day (25th of November). The local old tradition is to go over to the castle to celebrate this day with the family and neighbors eating fried sardines and asking the Santa Catalina statue for giving her blessing. Here around the south of the Spain they have lots of tradition connected to religion and till today its passed by from father to son.

    LomoLocations: Reno, Nevada

In prime areas of New York and San Francisco, the phrase ‘rush hour’ is always on the menu. Drive up to Reno, and the same expression fizzles. Many roads are framed by mountains and shrubbery, a picture of calm in the city. But the night makes up for the day’s stilly mood. Casinos flaunt LED signs and marquees, a treat for urban photographers.

    Eugenia Loli's Surreal Collages

In the hands of those capable wielding it, art can be a powerful weapon. With it, for one, creation of fantastical realms far removed from the one we live in is entirely possible. Through collage making, Eugenia Loli builds such worlds that invite the audience not only to marvel at them but also, and most importantly, to see through the hodgepodge of images to find meaning and formulate interpretations.

Long Exposures Around Europe with the Minitar-1 Art Lens

One of the things I like the most about the Minitar-1 Art lens is how sharp the focus can be when you shoot with a small aperture. So if you are one of those that like to shoot at night, get a tripod, add this to a late dark winter afternoon, and you will end up with a bunch of beautiful long exposures. This is what I did on my last trip to Europe.

The Beauty of Black and White

A popular quote by photojournalist Ted Grant goes, "When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in black and white, you photograph their souls!" Indeed, the lack of vibrant color forces the viewer to see beyond what is on plain view and recognize the atmosphere surrounding a photograph. In this post, we've handpicked black and white shots taken in various situations and exhibit different moods.

Lomography Day Trips: Hangzhou, Zheijang, China

Located in the Zhejiang province, Hangzhou is known as one of the most beautiful cities in China. I went there following my aunt’s advice. She studied calligraphy in Hangzhou Arts University (杭州美术大学) and told me, "When I sat by the lake, I just understood Chinese painters. They painted what they see, not less."
