The Labyrnth of Horta is the oldest park in the the city of Barcelona. Its labyrinth, gardens, terraces, springs and statues just complement its historical value and mysterious ambient. Right in the outskirts of Barcelona the park offers an excellent alternative when you are looking for an escape of the city and its complications.
At first I was a little skeptical about visiting this old forgotten park. When I was at the gate I still had my doubts. But the second I went in, I knew this place was something special, and I’m still puzzled by its enchantment. Welcome to the Parc del Laberint d’ Horta. Beware not to get lost!
The Parc del Laberint d’ Horta is the oldest park of its kind in Barcelona and you can feel it in the air. The second you cross the gate you feel like you are entering another world, another time. You see yourself in a world were a secluded princess daydreams, a wicked witch confabulates and an intellectual frog tells you his tragic story.
The labyrinth is at the entrance and gives the park its name. Is a 750 metres maze with trimmed cypress trees, numerous sculptures, mostly of greek gods, having a statue of Eros right in the centre, and sure just one way out.
The park has the labyrinth as its main attraction, but trust me, there’s lot more than that. Full of gardens, terraces, fountains, a medieval watchtower, springs, a stream and a small waterfall, this park is magical in every sense. Simply the perfect place to escape the city and its complications.
So when in Barcelona, escape the concrete. Immerse yourself into an ancient and mysterious world were everything is possible, and dream. Just don´t forget to load your camera. Lomo on!!!
