Fuji Instax 210 Wide Camera

With all the wailing and gnashing of teeth about the current state of the integral film market, Fuji has created a solution that’s low cost and produces results that are nothing short of awesome and totally powered by your willingness to quit thinking and just shoot!

A few months ago my wife and I were packing up our cameras so we could spend a day shooting in Papago Park and the urge to go instant hit me. Sure, I could have shrugged it off and packed my Holga 135, but there was something alluring about the prospect of going instant that really hooked me. I wanted the discipline of not being able to see my shot on some soulless LCD screen like a digital camera but I wanted prints. Now. Now. Now.

So we swung by our local camera specialty shop and I picked a Fuji Instax 210 Wide Camera and a few packs of film. And there my love story began. The first thing that wowed me with this totally awesome camera was the stunning accuracy of the reverse Galilean viewfinder. I know lots of us are used to learning the eccentricities of our viewfinders but you’ll have the Instax 210’s mastered by the end of your first pack. The parallax is that small. Even with the attached close-up lens popped on I found myself doing little compensation because the close-up lens has an attachment that shows you where the center is of your close-up image!

The 95mm Fujinon lens produces images that are more than satisfactorily sharp and the pictures have a dreamy, hard plastic quality. The Instax gives everything a candy-coated, toy soldier look. It’s awesome.

Like versatile? Like grainy? The Instax shoots a versatile ISO 800 film that will give your daytime shots true grit and let you get away with far more than you ever thought possible indoors and at night. One of my most favorite recent shots was a picture of fire hydrant I took with the Instax at night.

And here’s the best part my Lomo pals. It’s comparitively cheap for an instant and it takes double A batteries. So if you are like me and want awesome prints now, now, now then head over to the Lomography shot and pull the trigger on this camera.

You’ll be happy you did in an instant!

I just got one also, mostly for the convenience of buying film I took one shot and fell instantly in love. The quality is very similar to a 600 but the way my shot was "bleached" looks terrific. I'm taking it for a visit to Rome today. Can't wait to play in Italy.
