Old South Station

It’s not easy to find abandoned places in Nice! The ancient railway station of “Chemins de fer de Provence” is one of them. Built in a neoclassical style in 1892 by the architect Prosper Bobin, it is not used anymore since 1992 (a new terminus was built 6 blocks from the ancient one).

The tall rooftop that covered the tracks was the pavilion of Russia and Autria-Hungary of the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris. It had to be destroyed to plan the new Town Hall, but the project was quit.
The line still exists: you can buy a ticket for Digne les Bains, in Alpes de Haute Provence, 151 km far from Nice, for a 3 hours travel in the mountains. During the summer, there are even steam trains on the line!
