The Lomography Rumble F.A.Q.

Here at Lomography we value everyone’s comments and suggestions! With the multitude of rumbles currently running, everyone has been unconsciously (or consciously) submitting their feedback along the way and we considered them thoroughly for this installment! To guide you for future rumbles, we have put up our first RUMBLE F.A.Q. to help you out with things that might have been unclear! Please refer to this post when in doubt, at least for the meantime.

For legal matters regarding use of photos for promotions, etc. please refer to our Legal Agreement

At the rumble entry post, go to the bottom area of your browser tab/window. There will be a ‘BROWSE’ button located at the bottom of the comment input area. Click on the ‘BROWSE’ button and a dialog box will appear. Submitted photos will appear shortly. Refer to this photo:

From rumbles beginning on May 20 2009, we require users to submit complete meta tags in their contest entries. We will only accept entries that have accomplished inputting the camera used, film type, location and at least 3 description tags are eligible to win a competition.

This is an advantage for you to remember the details of your analogue excursions and get your photos reach a wider audience. Members will get to navigate through your photos easier, and this would help the LomoJury to screen entries easier for our deluge of rumbles and site competitions!

For more information on how to correctly tag your photo submissions, read our Lab tutorial “here”:

The announcement of winners vary with every rumble. Please give us a span of TWO WEEKS to select and announce the winners. This means winner announcements can be made early on within the 2-week period or at the exact end of it. We promise we’ll try to keep it early, although we might break this rule when we’re on full load. :)

For company collaboration/external rumbles or rumbles with physical prizes, winner announcements can be will vary, to which the 2-week rule does not apply.

Many of you have been asking us regarding updates about the Multilens rumble book, the Lomography x Collette Dianalogues amongst other pending publication projects so here’s an update, or at least an explanation for such:

We apologize but we cannot set defined announcement dates as there are external factors to be considered. These include overall organization, design/layout, editing, proofing and printing which could take quite some time to complete. Rest assured that when these books come out, we will let everybody know firsthand and they’re definitely going to be an awesome surprise for everyone!

For the piggy points awarded to the winners (this goes for rumbles only and not other contests), please give us maximum ONE WEEK from announcement to process your piggies. We usually batch-process the awarding of prizes and hopefully it gets streamlined soon!

The piggies received for winning a rumble will be usable in the online shop for 1 month after awarding.

As much as we’d love to see everyone’s entries, we can’t do anything about that :| We DO NOT accept your e-mail entries to be fair with everybody else.

Upload limits will vary with every rumble put up. We sometimes might ask for just one entry, or an unlimited set of entries depending on the situation. Our aim is for everyone to see great lomographic shots from people all over the world. Rest assured that we look into ALL of your entries before we come to our final decision. For problems with uploads, please refer to the next section.

There could be multiple possibilities as to why your photos might not appear on the blog/user galleries:

  • 1. FIREWALL. Upload function might be blocked by a firewall. Please consult with your service provider for this.
  • 2. CACHE. Clear your internet browser’s cache, then restart. If it doesn’t work, try restarting your computer altogether.
  • 3. LAG TIME. During peak hours, our servers usually gets lagged for a few moments. If your photos don’t appear the first time around, please give a few moments before retrying.
  • 4. TIMEOUT. This happens when your connection becomes unstable, or when filesizes are larger than usual. A way to remedy this is to upload your photos mid-way the required and the maximum filesize (usually 2-3mb).
  • 5. OTHER REASONS. Since the beta site is still a work-in-progress, some unforeseen issues are abound to happen. We are trying to fix this, promise!

If neither of those work, please read on to the next section:

At the time of rumble closing and your shots can not be seen, the least compensation we could give is the insane number of rumbles we’re giving. We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences this might bring, and these issues are already ticketed.

If you already submitted your entry, please give an opportunity for others to partake with their brand new shots. So please do choose wisely! Repeated submissions will lower your probability for award consideration beginning today, February 2, 2009. So if there’s a 10-upload limit and you only have 5 good shots, submit only your best 5. Let’s keep everything top-notch! We hope this new rule addition would ensure balance and fair representation between all the users for future rumbles and on-site activities.

Please MAKE SURE that your entries are in accordance to the blog post details. We usually give exact detail for submissions. Unless urgent, it will be on the blog post. Clarifications may be seen at the comments area.

Although we cannot verify every entry submitted, the community will eventually find out sooner or later. We have the right to disqualify future entries from the submitter if found guilty starting with the next rumbles. Since a delete function is not yet available, just leave a message if you uploaded a wrong image so we could void it. If you are unsure of your entry, it’s better to leave it in your personal archives than take the risk of being permanently disqualified.

To avoid problems with the Lomographic law or the public jury, please please please verify your entries before submitting!

Keeping in line with Lomography’s film & analogue-based community culture, we DO NOT allow digitally taken, enhanced or manipulated photo submissions. At some point winners/entries are questioned we will first look into the complaints before putting up any further action and possible sanctions.

For further suggestions, please hit a reply to this post and we will consider it for upcoming updates of the F.A.Q.!

I suggest that I always win at least 2nd place for every rumble! Just kidding. You are doing a great job getting the beta site underway... these rumbles have been so much fun.

I think the problem is that we are all like excited kids on a car journey - "are we there yet, are we there yet, are we there yet" and with so many comeptitions going on as well - its like force feeding us a whole bunch of sugary snacks - so i think just little updates are great its like a little stop and a stretch - wait i have pushed the car journey metaphor too far! but you get the idea. I totally love these rumbles as well i cant wait to see some of the winners. Are we there yet? (sorry)

I really like the idea of the "authenticity of entry" rule. That seemed to be a big one recently. Always a good thing to have an even playing field...

I promise to read the rumble specifications more closely from now on! :-)
The F.A.Q. is a very good idea!!! Will you post a link to them with every rumble so that people don't have to search the blog for it anytime a rumble starts?

What about if there was a regular day where winners were announced like a wednesday - WINNERS WEDNESDAY - that way people will know when to expect to find stuff out and it has a nice ring!

Let me groan about a max 2 week wait for winners, but I think the time stamp somewhere on the entry is a big help!

Just wanted to make sure I'm reading this correctly--by "digitally. . .enhanced or manipulated photo submissions," does this involve any digital manipulation, including cropping, color/contrast corrections, etc? Or do you mean more involved stuff like digital filters?
