First Rolls with the Lomo MC-A Film 35 mm Camera: Lomography USA

3

Every camera has its first roll overflowing with anticipation behind the shutter and often yielding surprises once developed. It’s a thrill familiar to every analogue photographer, stepping into the unknown where curiosity and spontaneity take the wheel.

That’s the kind of wonder the Lomography USA team was chasing when they loaded their first rolls into the Lomo MC-A 35 mm Film Camera. After the familiar wait with hearts racing a little, the rolls came back filled with stories and surprises. Here, they share their first impressions, favorite frames and the little moments that brought this newest analogue camera to life.

Nikita – Lady Grey 400 while Spinning Records

Photos by Nikita Krakhofer | Lomo MC-A 35 mm Film Camera | Lady Grey B&W 35 mm ISO 400

Where did the MC-A take you, and what caught your eye?

The MC-A took me to parks, parties, and city streets where I was drawn to the vibrant energy of people enjoying hot summer days in NYC.

Was there a scene that really stuck with you? What did the MC-A bring to that image?

A family cooling off by the fire hydrant. The MC-A’s small size and its auto & zone-focus capabilities let me get close without drawing too much attention.

Chloe – LomoChrome Turquoise for the Rooftop Party

Photos by Chloe Fuller | Lomo MC-A 35 mm Film Camera | LomoChrome Turquoise 35 mm ISO 100–400

What was the first thing that came to mind when you saw the developed photos?

I was so impressed by the contrast and sharpness across the whole frame. I’m a frequent user of the Lomo LC-A Minitar-1 Art Lens on my digital camera, and shooting with this camera gave me that same look I love but in a convenient point-and-shoot. I loved the combo of the lens’s center sharpness with the corner fall-off, especially with LomoChrome Turquoise and the flash. They had such a saturated pop!

Which frame from the roll is your favorite, and why?

Well, there’s nothing like capturing a cute moment between a couple and making them look like aliens who just landed from the planet LomoChrome. I really like that photo because it was such a tender moment they didn’t even know was being captured- and they definitely didn’t know their skin tones would end up looking like that of a Smurf. It’s so cool.

Will – In Light and Mist with Color Negative

Photos by Will George | Lomo MC-A 35 mm Film Camera | Lomography Color Negative 35 mm ISO 400

What made these particular moments feel worth capturing?

NYC under such a dense cloud of fog is truly such a special occasion that demands to be photographed. Watching people so encaptured by the skyline draped in such a hazy atmosphere made for such a beautiful image.

From a cloudy city day to a bright beach afternoon, how did the MC-A handle the contrast?

The MC-A held up exceptionally well in all of the lighting conditions I threw at it. No matter the condition the camera was able to render the scene exactly how I envisioned it.
