London Design Festival LomoReporters Mark Luke Grant and Isobel Gill
5We teamed up with London Design Festival and ran an Open Call offering two people the chance to be a LomoReporter for the day, shooting some events at the Shoreditch Design Triangle using a Lomography camera as part of the festival.
The two winners were Mark Luke Grant who documented the Wine People Objects Show and surrounding areas using the LomoApparat Wide-angle Camera and Isobel Gill who visited the Car Boot Sale Show by Slancha and the surrounding areas using the Lomo'Instant Wide Glass. We talked to Mark and Isobel to find out more about them, the reason for entering, and how they found the results from the day.
Hello Isobel, please tell us a bit about yourself and why you entered this Open Call?
I’m a lifestyle and editorial photographer with a strong interest in capturing people, details, and atmosphere in ways that feel both intimate and expressive.
I entered this Open Call because I was excited by the opportunity to work with a camera I've not used before and the opportunity to shoot an exciting event!
How did you find shooting with the Lomo'Instant Wide Glass? Would you try shooting instant again in the future?
I found it really insightful. I've only used an automatic instant camera before, so it took me a few practice shots to get more comfortable with the manual settings. What I loved most was how the wide glass camera lets you capture so much more in a single frame, while also giving a richness to the colors that makes each image feel more alive and warm. I definitely would try it again! I loved the richness of the colors and the hands-on feel, and I think it makes the process more intentional and rewarding, while still giving you that instant result.
Hello Mark, please tell us a bit about yourself and why you entered this Open Call?
I’m a London-based photographer, originally from the South West, with a focus on street photography that captures the beauty and peculiarity of everyday life. I work across film and digital, and also run Still In Street, curating exhibitions and publications that champion London street and documentary photography.
I entered this open call as I wanted the chance to mix up my approach and explore shooting with a Lomography camera as part of a dedicated event.
How did you find shooting with the LomoApparat? Would you try shooting instant again in the future?
I enjoyed using it. I’m not used to shooting with such a wide lens, so next time I’d get much closer to my subjects. I liked its compact nature, and the double exposure feature was great fun – something I’d lean into more in future. The same goes for the flash: it’s not something I usually work with, but I’d definitely like to experiment with it further. Absolutely – I think I’d be more experimental with it next time.
