The launch of the Harman Phoenix 200 in 2023 signaled growth and further revival for the film market, which in the last few decades has been grappling with the closure of several film companies that resulted in scarcity and rising film stock prices. The situation for color film was especially dire, as its complex production process has made new launches increasingly rare compared to black-and-white.

Harman Phoenix 200 marked Harman's entry into the color film market, having previously established its name under Ilford Photo as a black-and-white film manufacturer. In July of 2025, Harman also released a new, more refined version of its color film, the Phoenix 200 II.

Through their LomoHomes, many Community members have shared images taken with the Harman Phoenix 200 with different subjects and in different environments. Let's take a look at a few outstanding photos in this mini gallery.

The first iteration of Harman's color film received mixed reviews from the market, with some expressing difficulties such as properly exposing the film stock and heavy grain, while others rejoiced in the film stock's imperfections and experimental nature. In a blog review, photographer and Community member @vanc noted some of the film's characteristics:

As for the Harman Phoenix 200 film, it’s great for experimental stuff. Tweaking the ISO settings, like dropping it to ISO 160 or lower, can really change up the contrast and overall look...For the extreme high contrast and dark shadows, I might want to suggest to try shoot at ISO 160 if you have this roll. The high film grain is still acceptable.

It's visible that the Harman Phoenix 200 reacts strongly to different lighting conditions, shining the best outdoors in sunny conditions or in well-lit indoor locations to retain shadow and highlight details. Its punchy contrast and colors could render beautifully for dramatic portraits, or even macro-photography given a pop of bright colors against a dark or neutral background.
