Hello Rosa, welcome to our magazine! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Thank you so much for having me! I am Rosa, a self-taught photographer with Dutch and Peruvian roots, raised in Ibiza and now based between two islands (Ibiza and Zanzibar). My work is centered around female empowerment, creative collaboration and sustainable fashion.

How did your photographic journey begin and when did film become a part of it?

I was around 16 when I played with the first digital camera I could get my hands on, and I remember spending HOURS just playing around capturing colors and portraying animals. I knew there was something there. Then I got given my mum’s analogue camera at 17 and it was my baby for the next few years to capture special moments in time. I traveled for the coming six years around the world with my partner trying to find what kind of photography I wanted to do (I wanted to be a National Geo photographer at first!) I got back home when I was 24, found fashion photography, and followed that direction.

Female empowerment is a central theme in your photography. How do you convey this message through your images?

Through photography I aim to celebrate the essence of being a woman, creating a space for her to express authentically. I hope for every woman I photograph to look back at her images and feel empowered by their own presence.

What emotions or stories do you aim to capture when photographing your subjects?

I want to capture each woman in her authentic self, however that may be. In a natural environment, that she feels comfortable in. Usually I love to be surrounded by nature, in natural light, since those are places that inspire me the most. I think my work explores the theme of connection – to nature, to oneself.

You shot these amazing photos on LomoChrome films. How do their distinctive color shifts and tones influence the mood and narrative of your shots?

I love to use Lomography films for my creative shoots. I love the cinematic feel of LomoChrome Metropolis. To be honest it was the first time using LomoChrome Purple and Turquoise, and I loved to embrace the otherworldly scenery it delivered.

What do you feel analogue photography brings to your artistic expression?

Film forces you to be more intentional. Every frame counts, you have to have patience, and trust the process. It allows you to be more in the moment with your subjects, without thinking or obsessing at the instant results.

Are there any upcoming projects you're excited to explore?

There are for sure, I am just drafting the ideas, so it's too early to talk about it.

What advice would you give to emerging photographers aiming to develop their own distinctive style?

Shoot what excites you, what you find attractive. Come from a place of authenticity, don't think about what you think you 'should' be shooting. Keep experimenting, keep practicing, and never stop. Connect with other like-minded creatives. Collaborate! Eventually your work will evolve, and you will find your creative path.
